ABSTRACT
We address a two-dimensional cutting and packing problem arising in the automotive industry, and more specifically in the production of car seats. We consider the case in which the seats are made from leather hides. We describe a Greedy Randomized Adaptive Search Procedure to solve this problem. The approach is composed by a constructive heuristic to build the initial layout, and by a local search improvement procedure based on sequence-based neighbourhood structures. We report on the results of a set of computational experiments conducted on real instances from a multinational company.
